Vocatives with hóı
You can say hóı followed by a noun — say, someone’s name — to make a phrase that’s like an interjection, calling out their name.
Hóı Álısı, jadı. — Jadı hóı súq.
Hi, Alice. — Hey you.Hıchu, hóı ké deo, sı súq jí ba!
Oi, kid, pay attention to me!
Quotation
We use shú to quote single words, and mó … teo to quote multiple words.
When writing Toaq, we surround quoted words by « guillemets ».
Kuq jí shú « jadı ».
I say “hello.”Kuna mó « suaq ké deo da » teo.
“The child sings” is a sentence.
